Meet the Artist
Shirel Horovitz earned her BFA from the prestigious Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem (2007) and her MA (2015) from The Interdisciplinary Art program at Tel Aviv University. She has exhibited in major galleries, museums, and art festivals in Israel and the US. Shirel is the recipient of the Rabinovitch Foundation Artist Prize 2018 and is working on a series for the Contemporary Print Festival in Jerusalem in March 2023. Alongside her art practice, Shirel teaches art, lectures, gives art tours, and is an art consultant to various private groups and institutions.
During her month-long OC residency, Choreography of Gratitude, Shirel will help us find beauty in the seemingly mundane. Our lives are punctuated by endless daily rituals: The way we greet a colleague, the way we exercise, pray in synagogue, and cheer for our favorite team. We sway, lift, bend, bow, embrace, release, advance, consume, recline, turn, run, retreat, and repeat. Shirel, through her exhibition, public programs, workshops, talks, tours, and more, will help us recognize and appreciate our ritual moments - deepening our appreciation for every day.
